Overview

The great Serengeti wildebeest migration is the movement of vast numbers of the Serengeti’s wildebeest, accompanied by large numbers of zebra, and smaller numbers of Grant’s gazelle, Thomson’s gazelle, eland and impala. These move in an annual pattern that is relatively predictable. They migrate throughout the year, constantly seeking fresh grazing and, it’s now thought, better quality water.

In the hands of our expert driver-guide, you will experience encounters beyond your dreams. But rest assured, there’s always something interesting to see.

Day 1: Arusha to Tarangire National Park.

After breakfast, you will depart for Tarangire National Park for a full day of game viewing. The Tarangire River, which meanders through the park, attracts wildlife, from a herd of elephants, lions, leopards, buffaloes, zebras, giraffes, and antelopes to various colourful birds. The park is famous for having the most significant elephant population in Tanzania.

During a safari there, you will have the chance to see many families of elephants interacting quietly. Noontime, you will have a stop for a picnic lunch in an observatory inside the park where you can view animals drinking water in the river. And many times, lions attack a thirsty zebra or wildebeest), continue game viewing, and finally, later on, return for dinner and overnight at Africa Safari Lake Manyara (comfort tent).

Day 2: Lake Manyara National Park

After breakfast, drive across the Great Rif Valley to Lake Manyara National Park for a full-day game drive. This fascinating park is noted for its splendour and extraordinarily lush acacia forest of giant figs and mahogany trees, home to troops of baboons and blue monkeys.

The park is also home to many buffalos, giraffes, elephants and a Hippo lake, where large numbers of hippos usually fold. The park is famously known for its over 400 bird species and the climbing lions and the flamingos on the lakeshore. The landscapes of this park are spectacular, and the game drives are done along the shore of the lake, providing implausible views of giraffes and buffalos in the foreground with the lake, flamingos, and flat plains on the horizon. You will return for dinner and overnight at Africa Safari Lake Manyara (comfort tent)

Day 3: Lake Manyara to Central Serengeti

After breakfast, depart, heading to the renowned Serengeti National Park, home of the Great Migration, driving through the spectacular views up the crater highlands, stopping at the rim for a bird’s eye view of the remarkable Ngorongoro Crater. Afternoon game drives to Ang'ata Serengeti Camp for dinner and overnight.

More than 2 million large animals inhabit this 14,763 sq. km of the park, including more than a million wildebeest, hundreds of thousands of plains, zebras, and Thomson's gazelles. Large predators, including lions, cheetahs, and hyenas, are drawn to the areas by the plenty of prey that migrates throughout the park.

Day 4: Serengeti National Park

Breakfast then departs for a full-day game viewing in Serengeti. Later on, in the afternoon, drive back for dinner and overnight at Ang'ata Serengeti Camp.

Day 5-6: Serengeti National Park Following the Migration

The migration location depends on the time of the year and could be as far as the remote North of the Serengeti near the border with Kenya or could be in the South (Ndutu Area). Later on, in the afternoon, drive back for dinner and overnight at Ang'ata Migration - Bologonja Camp.

Day 7: Serengeti National Park to Ngorongoro Crater

Today, you will wake up very early to do an early morning safari before breakfast, spot the animals when they are more active and have a fantastic sunrise. The sun-up in the African Savannah is one of the most excellent stunning experiences. After the game drive, return to the camp for brunch. In the afternoon, transfer to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area arrives for dinner and overnight stay at Octagon Lodge.

Day 8: Ngorongoro Crater to Arusha

Very early in the morning, descend to the crater floor for a day of wildlife viewing in one of the most incredible places on Earth. After a stop for a picnic lunch near the hippo lake and more wildlife viewing in the afternoon, drive up the steep road out of the crater and return to Arusha.

The Ngorongoro Conservation Area is a pioneering experiment where people (the Maasai), livestock, and wildlife co-exist and share the same protected habitat. The stunning spectacle of the Ngorongoro Crater, its steep walls falling some 610 meters to the floor, is undoubtedly one of the highlights of a safari tour in Tanzania. The crater floor is home to thousands of everyday animals, including the rare black rhinos, zebras, wildebeests, gazelles, hippos, elands, elephants, and a large predator population of lions hyenas, and jackals. It's also famous for its most giant elephants globally and has massive tusks.
